007 First Light is IO Interactive’s Bond origin story — a young, resourceful James Bond earning his place in MI6’s elite program. About five hours in, I’m still playing, and the Hitman-flavored stealth is exactly what I showed up for.
Synopsis
Developed and published by IO Interactive (the studio behind Hitman), 007 First Light is a narrative action-adventure that reimagines Bond’s beginnings. You follow a younger 007 through MI6 training and early missions — mixing infiltration, combat, and classic secret-agent fantasy as he works toward earning his licence to kill. It’s an original story inspired by Fleming and the wider Bond mythos rather than a straight film remake.
Stealth and secret-agent fantasy
I really enjoy a Hitman type of game, and this scratches that itch. The stealth feels good, and the secret-agent fantasy — planning approaches, slipping through spaces, playing the spy — is the part that keeps me locked in. If you’re here for infiltration and cool spy tools more than pure shootouts, this is the lane.
The story is a bit weak
The story hasn’t grabbed me as hard as the gameplay. It’s serviceable enough to move you between missions, but it feels thin compared to the stealth sandbox moments. Not a deal-breaker so far — just the soft spot five hours in.
Missions so far
I’ve enjoyed the missions up to this point. They’re the reason I’m still in the chair and planning to keep going. Structure, stealth toys, and that agent fantasy are carrying the early game for me.
Final verdict — 4 Stars
Still in progress, ~5 hours played. Strong stealth and secret-agent gameplay in the Hitman vein; weaker story. I’m enjoying the missions and plan to continue. Easy 4 stars for now.
